Garden Pests

These babies know how to eat!

I really hate crushing their little shells or dropping them in soapy water, but it has to be done. Spraying clay on the vegetables has helped repel some, but boy do they love, hollyhocks and zinnias.

Here’s a few things they haven’t gotten to yet:

  1. Haven’t seen these voracious little buggers – yet. Once I do, Mason jars filled with soapy water are hidden here and then and often everywhere. Isn’t it amazing how fast they can devastate?

    1. I flicked a few into a soapy jar and an hour later a new bunch had destroyed a new section of my poor zinnias. I’ll never plant hollyhocks again since they top out the list of flowers most attractive to japanese beetles!

  2. Can the ducks help with any of these pests? We have no visible slugs, for example, in the backyard. (Lots of animal pests but, hey, you can’t have *everything*!) Good luck with the beetles!!!
